Course Information
The power sector ,worldwide is in the process of transformation due to large scale addition of Renewable energy resources, complexities arising out of non- linear loads and load profile of the consumers who value choice and transforming in to prosumers (producers cum consumers) injecting as well as drawing power from the grid, EVs(electric vehicles), micro wind turbines, roof top solar .The overall impact on the existing system and conventional generation would be network overloads, complexity of power flows affecting security of the grid. Proper generation and transmission planning need to be done to suit the requirements of future power grids. Large scale penetration of renewable leads to reduction in system inertia, effect on stability.
Further, deregulation in power sector has thrown up challenges in planning, coordination and more significantly challenges to handle contingencies and dealing with stability aspects, need for better monitoring tools and improvements in reliability. These challenges call for reassessment of system stability aspects- transient stability, small signal stability, voltage stability.
The training caters to understanding of power system dynamics and control, Modelling of power equipment, system studies-load flow, stability, short circuit studies
