Course Information
WAMS is a collective technology to monitor power system dynamics in real time, identify system stability related weaknesses and helps to design and implement counter measures. It is based on Phasor measurement units (PMUs) which can deliver precisely time synchronized values of voltage and current phasors and other power system related quantities like frequency, ROCOF, breaker positions.
The learnings of Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS) can help you to manage your power systems running securelyand reliably. WAMS is a protection systemm that monitors the condition of the network, and in dynamic conditions alerts the operations staff of dangers & risks.
In real time operations, the operating staff gets better visualization than what is possible with SCADA & EMS by providing access to sub second information of power system variables & through alert messages.
In this course, you will learn basics of synchro-phasors: PMU, PDC, Historian, communication infrastructure, and applications like OMS, DLR, protection applications which can facilitate faster response to contingencies, emergency situations and even system disturbances.
The participants of these course will gain insights into the requirements for better power system operations and power system planning of emerging future grids with greater complexities. The participants get the capabilities required for designing, drawing specifications and implementation of WAMS systems for their utilities. Other utilities engineers, academicians, planners & regulators can benefit from capacity building and skill development endeavour.
