Course Information
The HVDC power transmission course will discuss HVDC transmission process, Interconnectors which are used for power transmission and connection of two electrical power systems, role of interconnectors in the energy markets, HVDC subsystems and technologies, HVDC installations overview, and power switching devices along with their development phases and applications coverage throughout the world.
HVDC plant components and their functionality will be discussed. Comparison of HVDC technologies, advantages and disadvantages of HVDC over HVAC will also be explained with technical and cost elements.
The course will also cover HVDC systems operation and control, guidance for HVDC links operation, performance requirements, converter types and configurations, converter modes of operation, HVDC converter processes, HVDC control centre operational services, control system configurations, and faults related to converters, AC/DC networks, and communication system.
Application of HVDC for offshore windfarms will be discussed.
Case study demonstrating parallel operation and control of HVDC and AC Interconnectors will be presented.
